ProjectTY_WDW 12.24 & 12.26.14
We took a break from Project TY (or more accurately, the Disney Parks) last week, so we had a twofer in honor of Christmas and the Christmas spirit.
On Christmas Eve we put on our game faces and headed to Epcot. By the time we got there the place was a zoo and most of the World Showcase characters were packing up for the night. I'd brought the photos, but hadn't really counted on being able to do much of anything due to the crazy holiday crowds. We decided to do a drive by of the Disney Visa photo place to laugh at what was sure to be a ridiculous line (on a normal day it's 30 minutes minimum). Nobody was in line. Oh, I guess it was closed, too? There was an attendant outside. "Excuse me, is this open?" "Yup." O_O "So... there's no line?" "Nope, do you have your Visa?" Hot dog.
Since we didn't know who we'd be seeing at the "surprise" character meeting, I couldn't check through my photos until after we were inside. This didn't stop D from tackling her favorite puppy... [I missed the photo op, because I had to dig through pictures...]
Pluto and Minnie! I HAVE THEM! YESSS! I called D back and handed her the photos. She charged forward, double fisting, waving them wildly then stepped back to watch for the reaction. She's learning... watch what it does when you do nice things for people, feel the joy in your heart when you give joy to others...
Minnie in particular got so excited. She insisted on hugging and kissing each of us. So fun. So glad we got to do this on Christmas Eve.
The day after Christmas I headed to MK with D solo *gulp.* I knew there would be big crowds so we got there super early and had plenty of FastPass planned. I was also desperate for a second attempt at getting Donald & Daisy their gifts, since the last time we went in we had the Epic Goofy Meltdown that I'm still mortified about. No line. Wow. Daisy and Minnie were up first. I had an extra Minnie Magnifique print.
Still no line for Goofy & Donald, too. Daphne was great with Goofy, like it had never been otherwise, then we finally got to give her precious Donald Duck his gift.
Enchanted Tales. First she sat in line with the other kids to wait her turn. I handed her the gift. She got excited and tried to charge Belle right away. A very kind attendant caught D's hand and pulled her back in line and asked D to show her the picture.
At last it was D's turn. Makayla, the attendant, announced, "This is the Lady Daphne, and she has a gift for you."
Oh man that princess dress went over so well with that crowd. The Ooooohs, the Ahhhhhhs, the Awwwwws. D soaked it up like a giant attention sponge. Belle was, of course, as gracious and charming as you would hope.
Then D gave Belle a little *boop* on the nose and brought the house down. (It was a gentle tap, not the mortifying Minnie Mouse nose smash she attempted once many moons ago).
Yes, Christmas is over, but we've decided to keep trying to deliver these gifts for the next few weeks or so. We especially want a chance to hit up the parks when the crowds aren't so crazy.
Thanks again for coming on this journey with us, which has been so rewarding for us in such unexpected ways. I will continue to post updates any time we get a chance to deliver gifts. Who knows, maybe I'll just hand out gifts all year (whoa, simmer down, Emily, I think you've gone overboard on the Christmas *spirit*). Stay tuned :)
