Faithful TWP readers will already know that Sunday was a challenging day in Peanut Land. There was almost no entry for this world's Project Thank You due to the... virulent nature of toddler moods. The day got turned around thanks to a very special moment with Fa Mulan worthy of its own private retelling.
The first time Daphne ever met Mulan at Epcot... That was a super special meeting for us. It was one of the first Princess meetings D ever had that she really actively engaged with the Princess beyond gaping and hugs.
D, for her part, at least wasn't whining post-lunch at Epcot. Then China came into view ahead of us, "Mahmee! Mahmee!! Mulan!! I can meet her?" Oh... well that's a turn around. Yes, D! Absolutely we can meet Mulan!
Finally found the bench all the way at the back of China. I gave D Mulan's gift, and we camped out waiting...
At exactly 1:58 the emergency exit doors behind the bench swung open and D got a VERY special surprise.
Oh, my God. D is having a private moment with Mulan. D was so stunned she forgot about the gift at first.
D handed over the gift, they had a chat, and I figured that was it. It was more than enough, more than anything I could have imagined. But Mulan wasn't done. "Daphne, would you like to take a walk with me?" What do you think?
Gone completely was that bizarre demon that had possessed my child the whole morning, Mulan exorcized her. D clutched her hand and let Mulan lead her out into the marketplace.
They stopped to play with puppets. I held my breath, praying that D wouldn't break one.
Then they finally rounded a corner to reveal a giant line waiting to meet Mulan. Oh, wow. That would have been a hefty undertaking with D. Mulan marched D right up to the front of the line and continued their little conversation. D took full advantage, stealing extra hugs, catching Mulan up on the incredibly difficult morning she'd had?
I seriously have no idea how we are ever going to top this. D's going to think she can just march up to any princess after this. "Me? Line? Don't you know I'm V.I.P.???"
So a huge Thank You to Mulan for taking the time to make such a special moment for my kid. Sure, Project Thank You was about giving joy back to the cast, but it's been so rewarding for D, too. I never expected (you know, before I drank the Disney Kool-aid) what an incredible experience it could be for my daughter to get to grow up knowing her heroes personally. My father has asked me, "You go to Disney all the time, how do you top that?" Honestly? I don't plan to. Especially after this day.
