Disney Villain Countdown: 33/40

Disney Villain Countdown: 33/40

**Spoiler Alert! Some villains are revealed in plot twists, so if you haven't seen all the movies...**

Fear / Intimidation Factor
Wah wahhhhhh.  I guess it's not all Hans' fault that he isn't remotely scary since he spends such a large percentage of the movie being a dopey love interest. He's not the absolute lowest score in this category, since he's pretty devious with his master plans... I guess...

You're right, Hans. I don't like you when you're angry.

Character Design
I'll give Hans that he's unique looking in the Disney Villain gene pool. He gets a kinda snappy outfit.  Those ginger mutton chops, though...

Wit & Quotability
Hans doesn't bottom out in this category as you might expect.  Or maybe it was just me.  He's... okay.  He also gets quoted ad nauseum in my current social circles, which mostly consist of Frozen-obsessed children.

Memorability
Hans and his character arc are the crux of my problems with Frozen as a whole.  They do such a thorough job of making Hans likable and thoughtful for the first large chunk of the movie, only to have him turn on a dime into the villain.  It seems so haphazard.  For example Hans goes out of his way to save Elsa from the archers in her castle, only to have to kill her later? MAKES. NO SENSE. Hans is somewhat memorable, but not for being someone I enjoy watching. He stands out for the M Night Shyamalan love interest/villain plot twist. That seemed totally unnecessary.

Hans just read his script for Act 3

Sidekicks
I give Hans neutral here. I suppose you could debate if Weaseltown is a sidekick, but he's more a side player and accidental antagonist than a true sidekick. Especially since they're in opposition to one another most of the movie.

That's right, take it, Hans!

Song
I'm a little torn here.  Hans sings a song, honestly one of the best of the film, but it's a love duet... it's not a villain song.  So I gave him five points over neutral, because he sings, just not a villain song.  There. Beat me up, I CAN TAKE IT! Unlike Hans, who gets punched in the face.
