Disney Villain Countdown: 7/40
**Spoiler Alert! Some villains are revealed in plot twists, so if you haven't seen all the movies...**
Don't mess with an ancient god with a chip on his shoulder. Hades has god powers and is o-v-e-r being relegated to the underworld. He's also clever and sadistic. Every time he gets mad his head explodes in flames (not just those calm blue ones). Yowza.
Hades is truly unique. The animation style of Hercules in general I'm not a huge fan of, but Hades is really something. His fluctuation mood-ring hair, his viciously pointy features, those creepy fangs, he's a very memorable dude. His only weak spot (visually) is his costume, which is comparatively drab. Still high marks.
Wit & Quotability
Our first perfect score in this category. James Woods voiced this character to absolute perfection, delivering one incredible moment after another. In a film that's otherwise inconsistent, Hades steals every scene he's in. Winner winner Hades dinner.
Disney Villain fans have a particular cult dedication to this dude, made nowhere more apparent than when we visited Villains Unleashed at Disney World resort. People LIVE for this guy and his yiddish outbursts.
All the forces of the underworld at his disposal, and Pain and Panic are the best Hades can do? They can be funnyish... sometimes... They're pretty much an attempt to replicate the magic of the Lion King's hyenas but with limited success.
Hades has a teeny tiny reprise that is sung about him, but no singing for James Woods. Kinda disappointing.
