Raising a kid and going to WDW. A lot.

Last Thursday was a special treat for all of us, as we received a visit from my cousin Stewart (Will) whom I hadn't seen in around 10 years.  Last we'd seen each other he was a quiet teenager, now he's a college grad with a job at Cisco, working conventions and drinking beer.  So we all went to Oblivion Taproom for burgers, tacos, and... yup... BEER.  Daphne was mostly on her best behavior, as long as we let her walk laps around the restaurant.  Our friends Krista and Sean stopped by, and Daphne seems quite taken with Krista (giving her hugs and holding her hand to walk around).

On Friday I managed to get Daphne's magical bath time cleanup routine on video.  Since then? She hasn't done it.  I think she figured out that putting away the toys meant bath time was over and she's not having any of that.

Saturday, Ian's family had a get-together to celebrate all the family's June Birthdays (they have a huge pile of them) and Father's Day.  Daphne has entered full "Stranger Danger" mode, and proceeded to CLING to my leg for the first several minutes.  After that I told her to get over it and go spend time with her family.  She did.  Her socks and shoes were a little slick for the floor, so after a few head bumps we turned her loose barefoot.  Daphne had some new experiences, including eating her first rib and corn on the cob.  This kid loves some corn on the cob now, so we're probably going to keep it around for her to gnaw on whenever she wants (it keeps her entertained far longer than most other edibles!).  Daphne also got to play with bubbles with her cousins.  Once she discovered Vietta's dog, it was all over.  Man, does that kid love a dog.  She even managed to nap decently both on the drive there and back, stunning me since our last drive was a borderline fiasco.  Well done, kid.

Sunday was more of a Take It Easy day.  Daphne played with her favorite toy currently, a cardboard box (seriously, she's obsessed).  We watched Cinderella.  I about died when she started waving her hands along with the Fairy Godmother during Bippity Boppity Boo, but I couldn't get her to do it again for the camera (story of my life).  We tried out Matilda's on Park Ave for lunch.  High chairs were available and Daphne loves anything involving mac & cheese so we gave it two thumbs up.

Daphne keeps surprising us with new things.  That she never does twice.  I was nursing her, and Ian leaned over to kiss me.  Then he looked at Daphne and said "Kiss Kiss!" and tried to get a kiss.  She was having none of it.  So he kissed me again, and we hear this tiny voice "... kisssss."  Once we confirmed that we'd both heard it, we desperately tried to get her to say it again but OF COURSE no dice.

Daphne wants to CLIMB ALL THE THINGS.  She's been wrestling with a cold for a while now, and since she's been coughing I finally bit the bullet and took her in to the doc this morning to make sure it wasn't an infection.  They have these huge stairs next to the exam tables for kids to use to get up on the table on their own.  You guessed it, D climbed right up there, no hesitation.  I don't know that she's seen a stair in her life, but she tackled them like it was old hat.  Good news, no infection.  Bad news, this kid is still TINY.  18 lbs 1 oz.  The doc didn't say anything about it, but I feel like that was the same weight she was last time she was there which was well over a month ago.  So now I am paranoid.  Oh well, I guess we'll find out in a few weeks when Daphne goes in for her ONE-YEAR-OLD CHECK UP!!

Holy cow how did that happen? A week from tomorrow, we will have kept this kid alive for a whole year!
