Project Thank You marches on! I'm seriously considering letting this just be a casual thing we keep going throughout the year (seriously, when is it a bad time to say Thank You to people?). Of course I'll have to update the message on the photos to not say Happy Holidays any more. I might ditch the ribbons, too. We'll see.
We don't do Animal Kingdom as much as the other parks, particularly for Project Thank You since there aren't a whole lot of character interactions there. I was, however, bound and determined to reunite D with two characters who had definitely given us one of my favorite Disney memories of the year: Dug & Russell. D has only watched Up once or twice, but she LOVES these two (can you blame her?). They are always worth a short line wait for the great interaction you get to have.
D knows the drill by now, and she's always so excited to give out the "gifts." She charged up right away, eagerly waving the photo at Dug.
Ok, I booboo'd. I only made one print. I said to myself, "Dug is a dog, dogs don't have thumbs, he probably can't even grab the picture?" Silly Mommy. Dug signs autographs. Of course he can hold a picture. I will not make this mistake again. Dug took the photo and started perusing it while D eagerly greeted Russell.
My favorite moment: when Dug realized what Daphne had given him...
Dug got really excited and started waving the photo at Russell and poking him. So Russell took his turn to peruse the photo while D eagerly greeted Dug.
Russell clapped his hands. The attendant said, "Oh, you got a present?" Russell charged over to the Wilderness Explorers bulletin board and gestured like he wanted to put the photo up on the board. "Oh, we don't have any more pins, Russell," said the attendant. So Russell found a different place of honor for their gift...
By the way Dug is one of the few characters at the parks that Mommy also always insists on hugging. Always. This time Russell wanted a hug, too. I love love love getting to make these cast members happy, however fleeting it may be.
Thanks, Dug & Russell, for the excellent Disney memories.
