Quality of Character
Jane suffers from the same problem that Natalie Portman has in Thor: she’s supposed to be an intelligent scientist, but when she encounters a buff guy, she’s turned into a blithering idiot. Jane is sweet and adorable, though. She’s a little inconsiderate, pushing Tarzan to take her to the Gorillas and thusly putting them in danger, but she’s at least bothered by it when it happens (unlike Ariel).
Overall Film Quality
Tarzan, like Hunchback, feels largely phoned in. The story is reasonably coherent, but since it’s been told so many times, you get sick of it faster.
Ugh. Tarzan isn’t even good-looking. He’s got this weird chin and giant misshapen limbs. HIS FEET! They are terrifying! Plus he’s kinda dopey. And he puts his family of Gorillas in danger to impress Jane.
Clayton is such a mediocre villain. Strangely enough, if it weren’t for his hypnotically oversized nostrils, he’d probably be better looking than Tarzan. Also did he raid Jane's eyeshadow? The gorillas are pretty forgettable, too.
I, like Trey Parker and Matt Stone, am still bitter than this won the Oscar over the South Park Movie for Best Song. Phil Collins turned in a lot of schlock for this one. Oy.
Jane’s poufy yellow dress, while entirely impractical for exploring the jungle, is pretty darn cute. It’s also just a dumbed down version of the far more covetable dress that Belle wears.
