The Weekly Peanut, Issue 117
Keeping the house in showable condition is a lot less trying than getting it to that condition in the first place. The secret is to spend as little time in the house as possible. We've also had multiple occasions when a text message has had us sprinting out of the house. Ian and I are both trading off late nights at work it seems, which leads to having to live vicariously through one another's phone pictures and videos. Ian got to witness the first time D sang "Old MacDonald."
I got to show Ian the excellent hiding skills our child has when avoiding bath time.
Friday night we had to vacate the house for showings, and we all agreed we were craving pizza. D was SO excited. We hadn't been to Mellow Mushroom since the renovation. It looks fantastic. I drooled all over myself for the garlic mello balls, then compensated for the damage to my arteries by eating a "healthy" hoagie. Here's one of those pictures of Daphne when I get scared, because she looks so grown up. You aren't even 3 yet, kid, cut that out.
Saturday morning Ian wanted to treat me to an early Mother's Day breakfast, followed by a day of Mommy Time sans-kiddo. Tusker House in Animal Kingdom continues to be the best food we've had for character dining. I don't even like corned beef hash, but it's SO good there.
D, as always, enjoyed visiting with some of her favorites. Thank heaven they sat us in a spot with better light this time.
At that point we split up: me to go on a photography adventure around Animal Kingdom, Ian and D for some Daddy-daughter time. Their initial plan had been to wander around AK, but D wanted to go on Spaceship Earth. The following photos and info were relayed to me by Ian...
It was very crowded. There was a huge line for the seas, so they just wandered around looking at the tanks. "Mommy, I see dolphins."
They rode Spaceship Earth and Ian introduced her to the fine art of silly faces.
So proud. D asked to meet Alice. "Of course, she totally monopolized Alice. Grabbed her by the hand and took her for a walk through the garden...."
"...Until she saw the phone booths. It was all over once she saw the phone booths..."
Yeah, D is pretty obsessed with these. We can't let her see them if we don't want to make a pit stop. Ian stopped in Morocco for a Habibi daiquiri (one of our favorites). The cast member took a shine to Daphne and offered to make her a special drink of her very own. He asked how old Daphne was. "21! Booze it up!" Not everybody gets my husband's and my sense of humor...
Blue... Why did it have to be blue....
When I got home D was still smurf city. I got to attempt to scrub it all off of her.
By the way I made the mistake of showing Daphne Dream Along with Mickey on YouTube. Now she asks for "CASTLE SHOW!!" constantly.
We didn't have big plans for Mother's Day, and we were both a bit exhausted from the day before. Why not go explore some Disney stuff outside the parks we haven't done before? We fueled up with coffee and breakfast at B3.
Then we headed down to check out the Disney outlets. Turns out these aren't really Disney Store outlets, but more Disney Parks Merchandise outlets. Pretty darn cool. D was impressed....
We also went to Downtown Disney. Thank heavens one of the new parking garages is open. It's still a bit of walking (omg Disney please get some covered walkways down there it's like the surface of the sun), but a vast improvement over the worst of the construction days. I want to win the powerball so I can completely decorate my house with all the contents of the Wonderground Gallery (seriously, I'm pretty obsessed with everything in the Co-op now).
One of our favorite Greek restaurants is Greek Flame Taverna, but we almost never get to go there since they moved to restaurant row. D kicked off the meal by dumping an entire glass of ice water into my lap.
Thank heaven for wifi. D got to watch the castle show while she at her chicken fingers and fries.
And colored in her new Disney coloring book from the outlets. I swear, she colored the fairies the right colors all on her own. This is a HUGE step from most of the coloring I've seen D do (which is generally meandering swirls and scribbles. Proud Disney mom moment.
That's our week. This Saturday it's my turn to entertain the kid solo, so we'll be at Magic Kingdom hoping that Star Wars Weekends drives everybody elsewhere. See ya real soon!
