The Weekly Peanut, Issue 1
Friend and fellow blog mommy BugChild has an excellent weekly feature on her blog called Dear Audrey. She's done a weekly update for every week of her pregnancy and every week since the kid's been born in which she talks about all the things Audrey is doing. This is so cool. I said to myself "Wow, with all the changes these kids go through, it would have been great to have that for Daphne. Oh well, maybe if we go for kid #2." You know what? F*** it. Daphne is still doing awesome and amazing things all the time. So even if not everybody is interested, this is a great way for me to be able to look back and for her out of town friends and family to stay on top of things. So here's what Daphne's been up to recently.
Daphne is 7.5 months old. She's a little on the petite side, but super active. This week her crawling is reaching new speeds. She is also having no trouble pulling herself up (on anything she can find) to stand. She then sometimes "gets stuck" and will cry until you come remind her how to sit down.
Last Thursday was Daphne's first Valentine's Day. Day care has a "Friendship Party." Daphne put on her special outfit (Once Upon a Child, how do I love thee...) and brought Pixar Valentines to all the other kids and Blue Bird Bakeshop cupcakes for the ladies that work there. Daphne is still the fashion queen of day care.
Daphne has had a runny nose and light fever all week. Yay teething. Still no real sign of that first tooth coming through, but she's gnawing and drooling on everything. She's also entered the "Mommy" phase we were warned about and likes to pitch little baby fits whenever I put her down/ leave the room/ do anything without her. I told her to get over it, because Mommy has to pee/ go to work/ cook dinner/ let her have time with daddy.
This past weekend Daphne received a visit from one of her favorite people, Grandpa Bobo (FIL). Bobo has a special relationship with Daphne; she is just always in the best mood and on her best behavior whenever he's around (even when she was just a couple weeks old!). The hubby found out that Gatorland was having a special deal for Florida Residents (just $9.99), and since we've lived here for 12 years and have never been we thought it was about time. We decided to forgo the stroller in favor of putting the Bjorn Comfort through it's paces for the first time. Turned out to be the right choice because the place was PACKED. We stayed for about 3.5 hours, Daphne even took a little nap in the Bjorn. My back held up pretty well with the new carrier. Gatorland is GREAT! I had no idea it would be so well put together/surprisingly not cheesy. We all had fun and agreed it would be a great place to come back with the kid and maybe some of her cousins when she's a little older and can enjoy the amazing play area they have set up (don't worry, no gators in there, just some adorable and sweet GIANT tortoises!).
I think my favorite development of the week is that this kid is doing better at not being cranky in the evenings/ before bedtime. She's decided that she is definitely ticklish on her rib cage. What's even better is that she's starting to develop a sense of humor; sometimes she laughs at me just because I'm making a silly face and not having to tickle her. Sometimes when she's nursing I'll stick my tongue out at her and she will crack a grin at me.
This next week Daphne goes in for her flu booster. We're also hoping to enjoy a Girl's night with Katy & Audrey this weekend (in which a bunch of girls sit around and watch the show Girls).
